The Man Froom Yorkshire

A fictionalized historical novella - WW1, Canadian history, politico/espionage intrigue.

It has often been said that Life itself is a series of lines ~ converging, running parallel, crisscrossing, and interacting with points in both Time and Space. Character driven, THE MAN FROM YORKSHIRE is a fictionalized historical novella that explores one man’s life from the late 1890’s to present day, steeped in politico/espionage intrigue, WW1 and Canadian history. It is a tale of the continuity that ensues when those lines converge, creating unique points in the fabric of reality. Eric James was once heard saying, “I’ve lived a very long time.” And in truth, he had, for what are fables but stories based on truths ~ elusive and yet ...

As one reader commented “a very interesting story that one just falls into... a story to be taken away with... was seeing it in black and white, like an old Hepburn movie.... and that’s a good thing.”

This is an intriguing book! There's certainly an element of mystery: Was Eric murdered or did he die of natural causes? Was he involved in nefarious international dealings or was he just a regular guy? Perhaps most interesting is the historical context which the author weaves into her story. She has well researched the history of the time and you are likely to find yourself on the Internet looking for more information about current events of the period. Fascinating! I found the ending a bit ambiguous, but then realized it didn't matter because I think the book is really about the never-ending and changing interrelationship of lives and events. A good read!

The Man from Yorkshire was an extremely compelling read. It was such a page turner that I found myself reading it over 3 times. Every time I read it another nuance was discovered. The characters were real for me, I could identify with their lives even though I'd never have those experiences. I guess the story took me along on this exciting, mysterious, and intriguing adventure. This was a memorable book. Everyone should travel back... Experience a new point of view and see life through the eyes of The Man from Yorkshire. Take an adventure.

Erika WainDecker can always be counted on for a very entertaining book... or in this case a novella. From the first page it put me in a nice nostalgic mood, with a historical setting told in a perfect tone. In my mind's eye the story was unfolding in black and white, like a classic movie. An excellent read.
